White Castle Ferry re-opens for service | Transportation

The White Castle Ferry is back in service, according to Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD).

The ferry has been down since June to allow crews to make repairs to the ferry’s propeller shaft. Service was expected to resume in mid-September after crews completed repairs to the ferry’s propeller shaft; however, delays in acquiring a dry-dock at the ship yard, the discovery of additional necessary repairs, and Hurricane Isaac’s landfall caused the return-to-service date to be delayed.

The ferry will operate its regular hours from 4:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Before traveling, drivers can call the Toll-Free Ferry Information line at 1-888-613-3779 for the status of the ferry, or visit the "Ferry Status" page on the right-hand side of the DOTD website.

Drivers can also access updates on the ferry through Twitter by visiting www.twitter.com/WhCastle_Ferry. By creating a Twitter account, drivers can receive automatic updates on the ferry’s status via their Twitter Web page or text message.
