Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) officials are sending out registration packets this week to schools to apply to participate in the voucher program and parents can start applying for the scholarships next month.
Governor Bobby Jindal recently signed House Bill 976 into law. Among other options, the legislation provides state-funded scholarships to students attending C, D, and F schools to enroll in state-approved nonpublic schools or A and B public schools outside their district or attendance zone.
The schools will be notified of their eligibility within one week of submitting their application. LDOE will post the list on its website, continually updating it as schools qualify for the program.
Meanwhile, parents can start applying for vouchers on Tuesday, May 22.
