Brett Stassi's first day as Iberville Parish Sheriff | News
IBERVILLE PARISH, LA (WAFB)- He was elected in a crowded roll of candidates seeking to replace a long time sheriff in Iberville Parish; Brett Stassi captured the coveted seat in style.
Many people notice, right off the bat, that he has an infectious sense of humor that breeds confidence; a confidence that Brett Stassi will take to the Sheriff's desk. Monday was his first day on the job.
"My main focus coming in is to expand the detective division. I want to bring in some new blood. Some new younger guys," said Stassi on his first official day. He has been working there for the past two months at the behest of former Sheriff Brent Allain.
Brett Stassi might be the new Sheriff in Iberville parish, but he's certainly not new to this parish itself. He served more than 20 years as an investigator with District Attorney Ricky Ward.
"We have a lot of trained, veteran deputies here at the Sheriff's Office that are staying," says Stassi. "We lost 11 people to retirement; some I won't be replacing, some I will."
"We met with the detective division. I told them that I expect more; more follow-ups, more investigations. We've got more people and let's hit the ground running."
Stassi says he will be a hands-on Sheriff, getting involved in all aspects of the office. He also wants to add a Certified Public Accountant to work full time in the office. Finally he adds he will be hiring a Crime Scene Investigator.
"I want people, when they think about the Iberville Parish Sheriff's Office, they know I'll be there when they need me," says Stassi.
