WBR celebrates Louisiana's bicentennial

April 28-July 29: Louisiana’s Top 200! : A Bicentennial Celebration Exhibit

This unique history exhibit represents the voice of the people. Crowd sourced content reveals ideas collected from hundreds of Louisiana citizens about the Top 200 people, places, and events in Louisiana's history that have shaped the character of our state. Artifacts from outstanding collections statewide are assembled to highlight our 200 year history.

 

Water Spray Park Celebration

Put on your swim suit and come out to enjoy the City's newest recreational facility - the Water Spray Park, located at Plaquemine City Park.  Come and enjoy the 12,000 square foot area of water falls and sprays, playful water toys and lots of wet fun in the sun.  Children under 12 must be accompanied by adult.  It's a free admission. Buses are welcome, but asked to call in advance please. Mark Your Calendar:  SATURD

Treasures of Pointe Coupee

A dedicated committee of Arts Council of Pointe Coupee board members and local artists has been working for the past nine months in preparation for the third Treasures of Pointe Coupee community art exhibit.   The event is scheduled for Friday, June 1 – Sunday June 3 at the Poydras Center 500 West Main Street New Roads.  This year’s exhibit will feature two and three dimensional artwork of 94 local and regional artists.  148 pieces have been registered for the show; some pieces are for sale and others are for display only. 

The event begins on Friday evening from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. with a free reception for artists and the community.  A silent auction will be held on Friday evening with proceeds benefiting future Treasures events and Calling All Artists, an initiative of the Arts Council.

Artwork will be displayed throughout the first floor of the Poydras Center.  Well known Baton Rouge artist Kathy Stone will curate the show and last year’s curator Della Storms will serve as judge.  Awards will include Best in Show, Judge’s Choice and Honorable Mention.

Caruso elected to the Plaquemine Bank and Trust Company board

Caruso elected to the Plaquemine Bank and Trust Company board

          Stephen Panepinto, Chairman of the Board of Plaquemine Bank and Trust Company,

 

announced the election of Kenneth C. Caruso to the Board of Directors at the annual stockholders

 

meeting held in April.

 

        Caruso, a native of Baton Rouge and resident of Walker, is a graduate of Louisiana State

 

University – Baton Rouge and holds Bachelor of Science and Masters degrees.  Caruso

 

began his nine year banking career holding positions of Vice President, Investment Division and

 

Senior Vice President/Chief Operating Officer.  For the past 29 years, Caruso has been President and

 

co-owner of Resource Management Associates, L.L.C., a software development company serving

 

community banks in five states.  Caruso is married to Marion Robinson Caruso and they have three

 

children:  Ryan, Karlin and Kristin and one grandson.

Kiwanis hosting "Winner, Winner, Bar-b-q dinner"

The Kiwanis of Pointe Coupee will be hosting its annual "Winner, Winner, Bar-B-Q Chicken Dinner" on Sunday, July 15 at the St. Mary Kiwanis Park, across from St. Mary's Catholic Church, located on Main Street in New Roads.

Dinners will be served from 10 a.m. to 1p.m.  The dinner will consist of; Bar-B-Q Chicken, baked beans, cole slaw, & a roll..

Tickets  are $8.00  per plate and available now from any Kiwanis member.

The Home and School Association at Holy Family School hosted an appreciation reception on Friday, May 11 for parents who donated more than 50 hours of service for the school year. An estimated 60 people were in attendance.
