WBR Museum hosting lunchtime lecture on Civil War

WBR Museum hosting lunchtime lecture on Civil War

The West Baton Rouge Museum presents a lunchtime lecture on "West Baton Rouge and the U.S. Civil War.

The lecture featuring Richard Holloway who specializes in researching Louisiana during the U.S. Civil War will be held May 15 from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the museum, 845 North Jefferson,  in Port Allen.

The ties that West Baton Rouge Parish shares with the state’s U.S. Civil War history range from its role in promoting the state’s succession from the Union; the plantation and home of Henry Watkins Allen, the last Confederate Governor of Louisiana; the cross roads for Sherman’s return march from the Red River Campaign; the site of the burning of the ram CSS Arkansas; the origins of the Delta Rifles, the refuge for Sarah Morgan, and so many more rich and peopled histories.
